Vernon Oakes examines report cards for the 2016 Presidential Candidates

Vernon Oakes, Host of Everything Co-op examines report cards of how the 2016 Presidential candidates are rated in terms of the cooperative values. The cooperativeprinciples and accompanying values serve as guideposts for the cooperative business model. Cooperatives are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity In the tradition of their founders, cooperative members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. These principles are not only guiding principles for cooperators, but are guiding principles of life as well. Several listeners call in to share their views of how the candidates are rated in terms of the cooperative principles and Values. This discussion will be continued next week.

Our host, Vernon Oakes, is a consummate advocate for cooperatives. He is a Past President of the National Association of Housing Cooperatives, and he’s served on several boards and committees to advance the interests of cooperatives. Recently, he served on the Limited Equity Cooperative Task Force, established by Anita Bonds, At-Large Member of the Council of the District of Columbia. Vernon is an MBA graduate of Stanford University, who has used his business acumen to benefit the community, by promoting the added value of the cooperative business model.
