Paulette LaDouceur Explores the Vital Role of Homecare Cooperatives

This week’s guest is Paulette LaDouceur, General Manager at Capital Homecare Cooperative (CHC). Vernon and Paulette will explore the vital role homecare cooperatives play in supporting the Baby Boomer generation’s desire to age in place, and initiatives of CHC.

Paulette LaDouceur is the General Manager of Capital Homecare Cooperative. With a rich background in professional theater, education, and community service, she brings a distinctive blend of creativity, empathy, and leadership to her role. Since joining CHC in 2021, Paulette has served in multiple capacities—including Member/Owner, Board Chair, and Care Coordinator—before stepping into her current leadership position. In addition to her role at CHC, Paulette serves as Vice Chair of the Federation of Washington Homecare Cooperatives and Board Chair of CoSound, a secondary cooperative supporting co-ops in the South Salish Sea region.

A passionate advocate for worker cooperatives, Paulette is committed to fostering empowered, collaborative teams rooted in respect, authenticity, and trust. For over two decades, she has been actively involved with cooperative, Tribal, and community organizations in the Olympia area—an area noted for having the highest number of co-ops per capita in the U.S. Outside of her professional life, Paulette enjoys making music, connecting with nature, and spending time with loved ones.

Our host, Vernon Oakes, is a consummate advocate for cooperatives. He is a Past President of the National Association of Housing Cooperatives, and he’s served on several boards and committees to advance the interests of cooperatives. Recently, he served on the Limited Equity Cooperative Task Force, established by Anita Bonds, At-Large Member of the Council of the District of Columbia. Vernon is an MBA graduate of Stanford University, who has used his business acumen to benefit the community, by promoting the added value of the cooperative business model.
