With more than 17 years of experience in the cooperative movement, Allanah has played a key role in cultivating inclusive and resilient food ecosystems. She is deeply committed to transforming ambitious equity visions into real-world solutions, viewing food not just as sustenance, but as a powerful tool for economic justice, cultural identity, and collective well-being. At the heart of her work is a blend of strategic thinking and community-centered action, forging connections that empower communities from the inside out. Allanah brings creativity, tenacity, and a steadfast commitment to justice to everything she does.

Our host, Vernon Oakes, is a consummate advocate for cooperatives. He is a Past President of the National Association of Housing Cooperatives, and he’s served on several boards and committees to advance the interests of cooperatives. Recently, he served on the Limited Equity Cooperative Task Force, established by Anita Bonds, At-Large Member of the Council of the District of Columbia. Vernon is an MBA graduate of Stanford University, who has used his business acumen to benefit the community, by promoting the added value of the cooperative business model.
