Terry Ingram, Organic Valley, Eastern Region Pool Manager appears on Everything Co-op. Vernon and Terry discuss some of the nuances of organic dairy markets, the importance of protecting farmland, and sustainable farming practices that have enabled him to survive challenging times.

Terry Ingram is a member of the Organic Valley Cooperative. He is a third generation dairy farmer who lives and works on the Virginia farm where he was born and raised with his wife, Alyson; their two small children; his parents and brother. He took over management of the Culpepper County farm in 2003, but the family was leasing the cropland to another farmer who hadn’t really done much with it. After purchasing his herd from a retiring couple who had hired him as a herdsman on their dairy farm, he converted his land into a 100 percent organic, grass-fed dairy farm.

Our host, Vernon Oakes, is a consummate advocate for cooperatives. He is a Past President of the National Association of Housing Cooperatives, and he’s served on several boards and committees to advance the interests of cooperatives. Recently, he served on the Limited Equity Cooperative Task Force, established by Anita Bonds, At-Large Member of the Council of the District of Columbia. Vernon is an MBA graduate of Stanford University, who has used his business acumen to benefit the community, by promoting the added value of the cooperative business model.
