Vernon interviews Russ Rader, President, of DC Cooperative Housing Coalition, and the Board of The Westmoreland Cooperative. Vernon and Russ discuss the Coalition, initiatives, and its role as an advocate.
Russ has lived at the Westmoreland since 1998, and has served twice as President of the cooperative’s board. The Westmoreland was completed as a rental building in 1906, and was converted to a cooperative in 1948. At his day job he is senior vice president for communications at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. In his spare time he enjoys collecting diecast toy vehicles, traveling, and managing a rental home in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The DC Cooperative Housing Coalition exists to advance the common interests of cooperative housing associations in the District of Columbia and promote cooperative housing as a desirable form of home ownership. It is therefore both an advocacy organization that articulates the interests of members before government officials and regulatory agencies and a service organization that provides information and education to members
